Clinical Lab Technologist Blood Bank

Job Summary

• The Clinical Laboratory Technologist – Blood Bank performs specialized laboratory testing and blood bank procedures to support safe and effective patient care. This role requires expertise in blood typing, compatibility testing, transfusion support, and adherence to laboratory quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood bank testing and laboratory procedures according to established protocols
• Conduct blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and compatibility testing
• Prepare and process blood products for transfusion services
• Maintain accuracy in specimen handling, testing, and documentation
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, quality control, and regulatory standards
• Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment
• Review and verify laboratory results prior to reporting
• Collaborate with physicians and clinical teams regarding transfusion-related services
• Maintain accurate patient and laboratory records

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of Clinical Laboratory Technologist experience in Blood Bank
• Blood bank experience is required

Strong knowledge of

• Blood typing and compatibility testing
• Transfusion medicine
• Laboratory quality control procedures
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory environment

Education

• Associate Degree from an accredited Laboratory Technology program
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support)

License

• Active New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (092)
• Primary Source Verification required
